A good week

Journal Picture
What a lovely autumn morning – perfect walking weather. Rudi and Fritz make sure we get out to enjoy it. They love their exercise in any weather, but there’s no doubt that on wet and windy days, there’s a lack of exuberance in their body language and they’re happy to get indoors again. It’s funny how some dogs just love the water and others hate it. Fritz and Rudi definitely fall in the latter category. Perhaps it’s their thick undercoats that would get sodden and weigh them down should they jump into deep water. When they were puppies, they each had one fall into the rhynes (water-filled ditches) on the Somerset Levels, coming up draped in duckweed. They were careful to avoid a repeat performance. They weren’t too impressed by the photo session at St David’s Head at the end of the Trek, but as usual were stoical and coped admirably.

It’s been a good week for Granny Trek, with a donation at last arriving from a major bank. They’d been promising it for months and we’d pretty well given up on it. Even more pleasing was news that a lady who saw our story in the Saturday Telegraph Review has held two evening dinners and raised £500! She’s been in touch by e-mail and it’s strange to know nothing about her, except that she has young children. Of course, we know nothing about hundreds of people who have supported my adventure and it would be lovely to be able to thank each and every one personally. However, many of them will hopefully read the journal, where there are many references to how much Children’s Hospice South West appreciates the generosity of so many strangers.

On Friday week, Ron and Barbara Vowles will be running another Bingo Evening in Burtle for Granny Trek. Ten years ago they were enormously supportive of the Jogle and now they’ve worked hard for Granny Trek and are approaching £1000. As well as this, they’re always ready to answer a cry for help. Heartfelt thanks to them for their loyalty, support and friendship.
