Goodbye good luck and thank you![]() Denise on a mini granny trek It is with sadness for us but with joy for her, that we learn that Denise Rogers , manager of Barclays Bank Bridgwater is off to a new challenge. She has been promoted to an assistant director at Parkway. We have only known her since the start of the Granny Trek during which she has encouraged her staff to actively join in sponsored fund raising and even took part in a sponsored walk herself after a long hot day at work. The efforts of Denise and staff combined with the bank’s corporate charity policy has raised over £3500 in support of Beryl’s cause. Her always open door and smiling face will be missed. Her successor has a hard act to follow. This report would normally have appeared in “Grandad-a-t-ease?Tell Tales” but as Beryl has not been able to write her Journal today, after what was apparently a wonderful walk with wonderful people in the Brecons, I have therefore pinched the most read page on the web. It’s getting quite exciting now that the end is in sight (only 14 days and 150+ miles to walk). I shall soon have to think about hoovering. Beryl will arrive at St David’s Head 3 pm on Saturday 23rd July. I’m hoping a large number of people will be there to welcome her. She deserves it. Fortunately Beryl cannot access the web site so I can tell you about the surprise party I am arranging in Bridgwater. This will be on the evening of the 30th July. No charge, although I’m hoping that a sponsored mini granny trek round a rugby field, a giant tombola and raffle will help to swell the funds. You can meet Beryl, Rudi and Fritz (again?) and hear a short talk that she is already working on for various future occasions. Ring me (Tony) on 01278 685698 for more details. DO NOT ASK BERYL, it’s a surprise. I must remember to wipe this paragraph off the site before she gets home. The latest news I can tell you is that Beryl will have problems tomorrow, A walk of over 14 miles, a lot of it on tarmac (nasty on a hot day, the dogs won’t like it either so I hope there are grass verges available) with her GPS on the blink and to add to her woes she has a heavy cold and is losing her voice. Then she needs to drive the motorhome to a new camp site. As she is determined to keep to her schedule she cannot afford to take a day or two off. However she will be pleased as eldest son Terry has arrived from Australia and will be walking with her for a day or two By the time she gets home she will be shattered and it will be my job to spoil her so that she’s fit for the party. Ah well, I knew my days of Grandad-a-t-ease were numbered. |
