Granny Trek for East Angia Children's Hospices

The Granny Trek at Carlton Marshes successfully took place and was thoroughly enjoyed. The Wildlife Centre had been opened especially to provide facilities and the walkers were lucky to have dry weather after the previous weeks of torrential rain. Though small, this event will have made more people aware of EACH - the children's hospices for East Anglia - which is of such value. So many people are still unaware of the existence of children's hospices.

The Granny Trek at West Dale Bay was a great success, with good weather and superb views. The ten mile walk followed the coast, passed sweeps of golden sand and impressive cliffs, with Sam (standing second from left) explaining the geology that is so dramaticly exposed. The walkers enjoyed the Granny Trek mood of friendship and camaraderie and money raised was estimated to be in the region of a magnificent £2000.
The total has now risen beyond a staggering £4,000. Sam - you're a star!

8 Carterton U3A members assembled by Carterton Town Hall for the start of the Sponsored Granny Trek in aid of Helen and Douglas House Hospice.
We walked approximately 500 metres together and then split into two groups.
3 members continued over Willow Meadow to complete a 1½ mile Trek and 5 members walked 5 miles up over Ken’s Farm to Shilton, then past the football club, down Kilkenny Lane, across the top of the Country Park, down the hedge pathway on Shilton Park and on through the RAF quarters back to the Town Centre.
The weather was dry but cool but we had plenty of laughs and banter to keep us warm.
Together we raised a total £280, so thank you to “The Trekkers” and to those members who sponsored us.
Also thank-you to Stephanie, Brian and Henry for their support on the day.

This was a very enjoyable walk, despite the baking hot weather. Fortunately there was some shade as we climbed up through the woods, to be rewarded by a magnificent view.
It was good to meet up again with Granny Trekkers from 2005 and we look forward to a repeat next year.
Granny Trek for Acorns Children's Hospices

The picture shows some of a group who enjoyed a 6 mile Granny trek around the village of Colwall at the western foot of the Malvern Hills. Walkers from Bromsgrove were joined by “locals” who rose to the challenge of plotting a route, almost entirely on footpaths and with few stiles and no huge gradients.
Although we awoke to pouring rain, by the time of our start it was fine and stayed so until we were safely home. We all got to know each other better as we enjoyed the lovely vistas of British Camp and the other hills and, best of all, between us we raised £200 for Acorns Children’s Hospice in Worcester.

It was a glorious sunny morning on 16th October when a crowd of walkers met in the car park of Carreg Cennen Castle. The imposing ruin stood majestically above the paths where Jane led the shorter walk, whilst those taking up the challenge of the more strenuous miles followed David, enjoying breathtaking views across the Cennen Valley.
A group of Barclays Bank ladies from the Ammanford branch, who had registered as a team with the Bank's £for£ scheme, ensured the money raised for Ty Hafan would be substantially increased.
The final figure is a fantastic £1,945! Congratulations to everyone involved.
